Don’t bring bed bugs home after traveling. It does not matter if you stayed in a 5-Star hotel or a budget friendly 2-Star, the odds of picking up hitchhiking bed bugs are the same.

DO NOT bring bed bugs home!! DO NOT take your suitcases and clothes into the house and unpack. Empty your suitcases in the garage and put all of the clothes (dirty and clean) into the dryer on high heat for 20 minutes, then wash them in hot water and dry them again. The heat will kill any bed bugs or viable eggs that may have been in your clothes. Don’t forget the clothes that you are wearing, they need to be washed and dried too. Leave the suitcases in the garage.

If you made a mistake and took everything in without thinking about bed bugs. We have all come home so tired after a trip, that anything is possible. You will need to keep an eye out for the little bloodsuckers. Check your sheets for fecal spotting, or small blood spots on your sheets and pillow cases. If you see those signs, pull the sheets back and look along the seams of the mattress and in the box spring. Bed bugs like the box spring because it doesn’t move around like the mattress. If you find a bug, don’t kill it. Get a piece of scotch tape and place the bug/s in a zip lock bag. You can take a picture of it or call me and I will come and take a look at it. Now go kill any other bed bug you see. It’ll definitely make you feel better.

We do offer return from trip inspections and we can do a canine inspection of your suitcases and your vehicle as well. Give us a call and we will help put your mind at ease.
